Choosing list columns
Search, technical names and dot-walked fields inside ServiceNow's own Personalize List Columns dialog.
ServiceNow's Personalize List Columns dialog gives you two long lists and nothing else. The extension adds three things inside that same dialog. Nothing opens on top of it, and saving is still the dialog's own OK.
Searching the available columns
A box above the Available list filters it as you type, and orders it by how well each column
matches, with the count beside the box. It matches letters in order, so actend finds Actual end,
and it searches the label and the technical name together. Enter moves the first
match across.
Two filters narrow by what a field is rather than what it is called:
| Filter | Keeps |
|---|---|
type:reference | Fields of that type |
ref:sys_user | Reference fields that point at that table |
They ask the instance's dictionary only when you actually type one.
Technical names
Double-click the dialog, anywhere outside the two lists, and each column shows its technical name beside its label, in both lists. The choice is remembered for the next time. A double-click inside a list still does what the platform does there, which is move the column.
Dot-walked columns
Under the Selected list, type a field and a dot, and the fields of the table it points at are offered, up to three steps deep. Tab completes, Enter adds. The last step is checked against the dictionary before it is added, because a column the instance does not know would silently disappear when you press OK, which is worse than being told no.
