Form rewind

The form itself, as it was after any earlier save, with who changed each field.

A Pro tool. The History related list is a list of rows. Rewind turns the same facts back into the form.

The rail

A pill of dots sits at the middle of the right edge of a form. The top dot is now, each one down is an earlier save, and the last is the record's creation. You can also open it with /rewind in the palette.

To move along it:

  • click a dot;
  • hold Shift and turn the wheel anywhere on the form;
  • use the arrow keys once you are rewound.

Esc, or the top dot, brings you back to now.

What the form shows

Rewound, every field that held something else then gets a box over its control with the older value and who wrote it. The fields that very save changed flash as the step lands, so walking down the rail reads like playing the record's history backwards. A field the save touched that still holds the same value is outlined rather than covered.

Activities follows along: it shows only what existed at that point, and says how many later entries it is hiding. A save that only added a work note or a comment is a dot of its own.

On a requested item or a catalog task, the catalog variables are rewound too, painted over their controls in the Variables section.

Nothing is written

Rewind only draws. It never sets a field value, so no onChange script or UI policy runs and the form is never left dirty. While you are rewound, clicks and keys aimed at the form are held back, so nothing can be typed or saved against a past that is only painted. Scrolling still works. Leaving removes every box, and the form underneath is exactly as it was.

Who sees what

The past comes from the record's history lines, which the platform lets you read only for records and fields you can already read. An account without access to the history gets the activity stream's own feed instead: the same saves, but only the fields the instance shows in Activities. Nobody is shown more of the past than the platform already shows them.

Configuration records such as a script include or a business rule are not audited, so their past comes from their versions instead, the same ones script blame reads.
